10 Tips for Eye Care and Travel

We are entering the busiest travel time of the year. Here are 10 tips for your eyes while you travel:

For any type of travel:

  • Be sure to pack extra contact lenses
  • If you are a contact lens wearer, don’t forget your glasses
  • Always bring sunglasses and keep them handy
  • Don’t forget your contact lens solution and case
  • Consider the climate you are travelling to. You may have allergies to certain things there that you don’t have here. Take your allergy medication with you if it’s an issue you are prone to.

Special tips for air travel:

  • Planes are very drying.  If a flight is going to be longer than an hour and a half, consider wearing your glasses instead
  • Carry your contact lens solution, case, and glasses in your carry-on and do not gate-check it – you will want to have access to these things in the event of an eye-related issue
  • Remember, contact lens solutions are liquid and must follow TSA guidelines – no larger than 3.4 oz is permitted and it must fit in a quart-sized plastic bag
  • If you plan on sleeping on your flight, wear your glasses instead of your contact lenses
  • Take a bottle of contact lens rewetting drops onto the plane with you
