Second Hand Smoke and AMD

We all know that smoking cigarettes comes with several dangerous health risks. One of those is that a smoker is three times more likely to develop age related macular degeneration (AMD) – a leading cause of irreversible blindness in people over the age of 60.  A new study out of the University of Cambridge has looked at this link for those who do not smoke but who live with someone who does. Their study of 280 non-smokers who live with a smoker showed that they were twice as likely to develop AMD as their counterparts who lived in a non-smoking households! Yet another reason to keep nagging, I mean encouraging, your spouse to quit!
